Concrete Industry Management students assist Chico Islamic Center
Public Service Activity
A group of students from the State of Chico's Concrete Industry Management (CIM) program led the design and construction of a new 13,000-square-foot parking lot at the Chico Islamic Center to help make a positive impact. Mohammed Albahttiti was able to mobilize a student team and secure industry support for the project in the form of material donations and hands-on demonstrations by on-site employees. The resulting effort was a seamless collaboration between Chico State University students and their industry partners.
Paradise Rebuild Effort
Community Engagement Activity
CSU Chico is collaborating with NRMCA and Habitat for Humanity to build 3 concrete "Habitat for Humanity" homes in Paradise. It is a tremendous learning opportunity and the fact that much of the structures will be ICF (insulated concrete forms). ICF is great for the fire-resistance nature of the product. Through these efforts, the most significant benefit is that the new homes that Habitat will construct in Paradise can be the safest ones possible for families. Two students from Concrete Industry Management and Construction Management work as interns to complete these projects under the supervision of the faculty and the Habitat manager.
Home and Heart: Homeshare Organization
Community Engagement Activity
Home & Heart is an affordable housing solution that matches adults in Butte County who have a room to share, with individuals in need of affordable housing. While we prioritize services for older adults, our program is open to all eligible adults who have room to share (home providers) or those seeking affordable housing (home seekers). Home share participants receive support throughout the life of the match including mediation or assistance with renegotiating the living together agreement as needed.
