Pass the Mic Camp
Community Engagement Activity
The overarching goal of our project was to partner with Wake County 4-H and Alliance Health on an innovative and interdisciplinary Pass the Mic Camp program. This camp applied our curriculum, Amplifying Youth Voices: A Storytelling for Social Change Curriculum to foster critical consciousness and youth-led community engagement. To meet our goal, we engaged youth participants in 1) developing critical reflection about social justice issues, 2) increasing their sense of political efficacy (i.e., the belief in their capacity to create meaningful social change), 3) motivating social action and community engagement through the creation and public showcasing of an informed social impact story, 4) deepening their knowledge and skills in the areas of mental health and self-care, and 5) developing a community action plan related to their storytelling topic.
